The war in Ukraine has dragged on for more than three years, reshaping global geopolitics and straining the international system. It is the only major power that Moscow might regard as a fair and trustworthy mediator, and the only one that Kyiv could accept as genuinely neutral.

India and Russia share a deep relationship spanning decades—from the Cold War strategic partnership to today’s massive energy trade. Since 2022, India has emerged as Russia’s largest buyer of discounted crude oil, cushioning Moscow from Western sanctions while simultaneously fueling India’s rapid economic growth. This interdependence means Russia listens when India speaks.
Moreover, Russia views India not as a geopolitical rival but as a country that has its best intentions at heart. New Delhi could ask for concessions—whether territorial compromises, guarantees for Ukrainian sovereignty, or de-escalation steps—that no other major power could secure.
Equally important, India could deploy peacekeeping forces in disputed areas without triggering alarm in Russia. Western or NATO troops would be viewed as hostile occupation; Indian troops would be seen as stabilizers.
The Modi–Jaishankar Duo
For India, this is not just about diplomacy—it is about leadership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar form a remarkable duo on the world stage.

अमेरिका या यूरोपीय संघ के विपरीत, भारत को रूस और यूक्रेन दोनों का विश्वास प्राप्त है। चीन के विपरीत, इसे पश्चिम का रणनीतिक प्रतिद्वन्द्वी नहीं माना जाता। यही विश्वसनीयता नई दिल्ली को वह अवसर देती है जो किसी अन्य बड़ी शक्ति के पास नहीं है—ऐसा ढाँचा प्रस्तुत करने का जिसे दोनों पक्ष स्वीकार कर सकें।
रूस के साथ भारत के गहरे सम्बन्ध, यूक्रेन के लिए उसकी लोकतान्त्रिक साख, और शांति-रक्षक भेजने की उसकी क्षमता—बिना किसी आशंका पैदा किए—भारत को सबसे उपयुक्त मध्यस्थ बनाती है। यदि प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी और विदेश मंत्री एस. जयशंकर यह अवसर थामते हैं, तो वे युद्धविराम कराकर शांति का मार्ग खोल सकते हैं।
यह उपलब्धि केवल यूरोप के दशकों के सबसे भीषण युद्ध को समाप्त नहीं करेगी, बल्कि भारत के एक वास्तविक वैश्विक शक्ति बनने की घोषणा भी करेगी। इतिहास याद रख सकता है कि यूक्रेन वही स्थान था जहाँ भारत पहली बार विश्व मंच पर केवल उभरती हुई शक्ति के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि शांति निर्माता के रूप में खड़ा हुआ।

Stagflation is very much on people’s minds again, for good reason. The Trump administration’s tariff and deportation policies are creating a significant inflationary shock.
They’re also imposing a significant drag on economic growth. Today, it’s likely that the United States would be heading into a recession under the weight of higher prices and slower growth if the economy weren’t being supported by a huge boom in AI-related investment. And this danger remains: if the AI boom goes bust, the odds are high that the US economy will be plunged into a recession. .................. Which scenario will it be this time? I don’t know.
