I do not mean to suggest if he were to have been more black than he is, he would have been too black for me, not at all. I don't mean to give that impression. It is just that I am fundamentally offended that the nation's top black journalists spent an entire day arguing back and forth the question if Barack is black enough.

Define black. Defy black.

There is this counseling aspect. If you had a traumatic childhood, it makes sense to seek counseling. For the African American psyche today, slavery and segregation are relevant collective memories. They have to be talked about. The pain has to be processed. But just like you can not spend the rest of your life seeking counseling, at some point you got to start living your life, the black community has to step up to contemporary issues like persistent racism, and especially chronic poverty in the inner cities.

There is a direct relationship between the chronic poverty in the American inner cities and the sorry state of Africa. Both are black and the world ignores them for it. My primary interest is Africa. My interest in the American inner cities comes by way of Africa.

Which candidate will be best for the American inner cities? Hillary is not going to be better than Bill, and Bill was pretty good, and Bill did not much touch the chronic poverty. The African American median income went up, but chronic poverty stayed.

Obama adopted the South Side of Chicago as his home. That is where he lives today. He is one of you. If he can't tackle the chronic poverty in the American inner cities, who can? Noone else is even paying attention. Edwards offers vouchers. He wants a few of you to be able to move out and let the rest rot.

And there is the issue of pride. It is to do with cultural heritage. Like Hispanics speak Spanish, I wonder if the African Americans should not pick up Swahili for pride purposes. There has to be a conscious affirmation of pride.

Without internalized racism, racism would die in the vacuum. About one third of the fight against racism is right there inside the black community. Black people partly hate themselves as well. It is to do with the wider persistent racism. But work can begin at home. Counter the self hate.

The question if Barack Obama is black enough is self hate talking. That talk has to stop. If you refuse to fight self hate, what right to you have to fight hate?

Rudy Romney: Mean On Immigration

These two are basically saying the 12 million should be transported out of the country, and while the country is at it, life should be made as miserable as possible for them through police harassments and what not, so they leave on their own.

This is mean. This is unrealistic. This is racist. This makes no economic sense. This makes no globalization sense. It does not even make security sense to force as many illegals to go under the carpet as possible.

Rudy was major league insensitive to the ethnic minorities in the city when he tried to tackle crime as Mayor. Bloomberg has manged better crime control without any of Rudy's insensitivity. Italian Rudy tries too hard to be white and fit in with the WASPs.

The immigration issue is not a crime control issue, a strict law and order problem like Rudy is portraying. America is a country of immigrants. America's birth and growth have not been crimes, or have they, Rudy?

Hillary has been a pretty good Senator, but then so has Ted Kennedy. Like John Kennedy said of Lyndon Johnson, agreeing with Johnson who argued he had been great in the Senate. "And that is why I think he should continue in the Senate."

Experience

Obama has been an elected official longer than Hillary. I think experience matters.

If one of Barack's white political opponents were to say Barack is too black or not black enough to be president, I would not lose a split second before labeling that opponent racist. Racism is like radioactivity or the summer temperature, it can be measured. And I intend to measure.

And I am not going to spare Barack's black folks, or my fellow Indian folks. If you are talking s___t, you are talking s___t. You are not going to get a pass from me just because you are black or Indian.

Race should not matter, race should not be used against you, should not matter that you are black, or white, or biracial.

MLK was not able to take blacks to the promised land, Jesse tried and failed, Sharpton was a joke. Barack is about to take black folks to the promised land. And so the black folks need to step up to the challenge. They are not going to vote for him in South Carolina because he won in Iowa and New Hampshire. They are going to have to support him in large numbers in South Carolina before he takes his decisive leads in Iowa and New Hampshire, as he shows every sign of doing. Black folks are going to get behind Barack right about now.

If not, Barack is still going to be president, but the black people are going to get left behind. Indira Gandhi and Benazir Bhutto were strong, smart women whose elevation to national power did not substantially improve the lot of women in India and Pakistan.

Barack is black America's chance to attempt and achieve parity. But for that to happen black America is going to have to step up to the plate. Nothing stands between Barack and black America, but black America does have to wake up. Black community leaders across the country are going to have to wake up and ride this wave. There might not be a second chance for decades.

Forgive me, but I never read that memo. I just read about it in the media. And not even the exaggerations offended me. And I am Indian. I am more Indian than the Indians because I am half Indian having to partly grow in Nepal's capital city where anti-Indian is how Nepali nationalism gets defined. I have the scars to show for being Indian, you perhaps don't.

Barack's paternal grandfather was a house servant to the British. He was called "boy." The Indians colonized India. Why can't the Indian community in America see that? Are they expecting some Abraham Lincoln or Mahatma Gandhi to show up again to help them get rid of their mental slavery? With their fancy academic degrees and fancy income brackets, can't these Indians in America do it on their own? Why can't they do it on their own?

Why can't black folks see it is a big deal that a black dude is going to be President of the United States? There is not a more powerful political office on the planet. A more powerful political office has not been created in the history of humanity. If to be slave and segregated is lack of power, holding the White House is the other end of the spectrum. If you hate powerlessness, why don't you love power? Stop being a hypocrite. Start making sense. Support Barack with a vengeance.

Barack offers the opportunity for India to emerge as America's number one global partner. India stands to displace Britain. China stands to do so economically, India stands to do so politically. India can spread democracy in the Arab countries the way America can not or can not alone, thats' why. It is a security priority for America to see in India its number one global partner because the only way to conclude the War On Terror is to turn every single Arab country into democracies and you do that by igniting local democracy movements. The Indian Muslims who are the grassroots soldiers of the largest, most vibrant democracy on the planet can help.

The top Indians in America need to stop donating to Hillary and start donating to Obama. You do it out of anger for your colonial history. You do it because racism still exists today and although you are making more money than any other ethnic group in America, you are not doing as well as you should. You do it because you owe it to the black people who were also wronged, and are still wronged today. You do it because there are plenty of white folks who think it is about time a black man became president because he is the most qualified.

You do it because you are Blac, and Obama is Blac, as in Black, Latino, Asian Caucus.

You do it for Africa. President Obama is going to be the best piece of news Africa ever had.

There Is A Lot Of Room For Newt

How strong is the Democratic presidential field? Salon Three out of five Republicans said in a March poll that they were unhappy with their candidates, and in July "none of the above" was the Republican front-runner.

Newt has many foibles but lack of ideas is not one of them. He is not capable of being a Democrat but he is capable of being a worthy adversary. He showed a greater strength in the ideas department than in the people skills department during his prime. And a lot of Republicans whose careers he helped launch dumped him when they got the chance.

I see a strong possibility of his throwing his hat into the ring later this year when the presidential race would have begun if it were one of the previous cycles. Newt will not have been late. Others would have been early.

He will definitely bring more color to the race. The Republican debates would get less dull. His 1994 victory will get written about all over again: it was quite dramatic after all.

I know he is thinking about it. I think he will do it. I think he is going to seriously unsettle the current Republican cart. Everyone who is running will have to take notice.

At this point I have no idea how well he will do. But he will definitely bring with him a whole lot of media attention. He is going to spark debate. You can always count on Newt to bring along some fresh ideas.

He might or might not end up the nominee, but he will have made a difference regardless. But the way things are going, he will stand as good a chance as anyone else in the running.

When Barack Obama said he was open to talking to adversaries - like Kennedy to Khrushchev, Reagan to Gorbachev - Hillary's sky came off the hooks. Somebody needs to inform Hillary that Barack Obama is running for President of the United States. He is not running for armchair intellectual. As in, ah, today, for coffee, I'd like to invite over brother Fidel. Next week, if I am open, if I have time after my leisurely evening walk, check for me if brother Kim is around. Would he like to have some spaghetti with me? We could catch a game together.

For a President of the United States to say he wants to talk is for the entire machinery of the US federal government to say the machine wants to talk. That is intimidating thought signal sent to any world leader, Third World dictator and otherwise. You don't think Sarkozy's blood starts pumping a little when his aide tells him he has a phone call from the President of the United States?

It is deliberate distortion on Hillary's part to suggest Obama is irresponsible in suggesting Obama would want to talk. She instead would first get lower level people to do homework. As if President Obama would first send his entire State Department on vacation for a few weeks before he meets up with someone like the Saudi king, who also, by the way, is a dictator.

Not Old Enough To Walk The Walk

I don't blame Chris Dodd for suggesting Barack Obama is not old enough for the White House. Heck, if I had as many white strands of hair as Dodd, I'd be saying the same thing, only more elaborately. I'd be saying Barack Obama is not old enough for skydiving, he is not old enough to be allowed a haircut. He is not old enough to sing. He is not old. He is too young and dynamic.

Turning A Cave Into Rubble Is Not Invading A Country

There are a few small countries out there. I hear the Vatican is pretty small, though I have never been there, so I don't know exactly how big or small. But I don't know of any country that is one small hill, or a small cave somewhere.

Bin Laden is in some kind of an underground enclave in the Northwest province of Pakistan. Look at the map above. There is a province called the Northwest Frontier Province. The state called Pakistan does not exist there. The Pakistan government signed a "peace deal" with the tribals in charge of that part of that country. It is not exactly Arizona. Bin Laden is somewhere in there. He is underground. Literally underground.

"If we have actionable intelligence on al-Qaida operatives, including [Osama] bin Laden, and President Musharraf can not act, then we should."

This is just one sentence. How can you distort it? Really?

"Actionable intelligence" means Bin Laden's precise location has been found. President Obama would of course inform Musharraf, and he would give Musharraf the option to strike the location immediately. If Musharraf does not have that kind of a precise missile that would take the target out, President Obama would seek his permission to launch a US precise strike which noone expects Musharraf to not give. But should Musharraf take more than a few minutes to decide, which would be enough time to let the information go from Musharraf's office to the ISI to Bin Laden, then President Obama would go ahead and strike. He would not wait. He will not invade Pakistan. He will just take out this one cave.

Would President Hillary Rodham act any differently? Would President Dodd change the script the slightest? If they would, the American people have a right to know how.

Who is being naive? Who is being irresponsible?

What will likely happen is this. Whichever country between the US and Pakistan first finds out where Bin Laden is will share the information with the other and both will take less than three minutes to make a coordinated attack on the target. They will hit together.
